Chapter Twenty Eight

Skye called Melanie the next morning after he left. “Chad stayed at my house last night.”

“Are you sure you want to get involved with him again?”

“Maybe he’ll change this time.”

Melanie sighed. “I don’t want to see you get hurt again.”

“I just can’t seem to say no to him.”

“Chad can certainly be charming when he wants to be.”

“Do you think I’m stupid for giving him another chance?”

“I don’t want you to go through all of that pain again,” Melanie said. “There’s nothing wrong with giving someone a second chance. Scott was horrible to me. I gave him another chance, and we worked things out. I never thought I could be this happy with him. I know I’ve said this before but guard your heart.”

“I think he’s ready to give things a try this time.”

“For your sake, I hope he’s changed.”

“But you don’t hold out much hope, do you?”

“I don’t know. I know Chad cares a lot about you. I’ve never known him to stick around or date a woman for long,” she said. “He keeps coming back. Let’s hope he stays this time.”

“What’s Scott think?”

“You don’t want to know,” Melanie laughed. “Scott doesn’t like seeing you hurt.”

“We’ll be at Joy’s party on Friday.”

“Ok, I’ll watch him and see if he’s acting any different.”

Skye laughed.

Melanie hung up the phone. She knew Chad wouldn’t stay, but Skye sounded so hopeful that she didn’t have the heart to tell her what she thought. She was going to get hurt all over again.
